Why Kiln-dried
Just try it and you’ll know why! Fires are fun again.
Kiln-dried wood has no bugs, no molds, lights easier, burns cleaner, less smoke, safer for your chimney, burns hotter, looks better, etc., etc., etc…we could go on.
Seriously…just better firewood, delivered a better way.
You’ll enjoy more fires with friends and family, and never worry about running out of wood!
FAQs
What’s the difference between “seasoned” and kiln-dried?
It’s all about the moisture content in the wood, and how we get to that level. While there is no official standard for what constitutes seasoned wood, generally a 20% moisture content is the goal. For premium firewood species like Oak, that can take about 2 years to achieve! That’s a lot of time for bugs to move in and molds to colonize your wood.
With our USDA certified kilns, we target under 8% moisture content in just 42 hours! The other benefit of essentially “baking” the wood…no bugs or molds can survive 42 hours above 160 degrees.
Where can I burn kiln-dried oak?
Anywhere! Ask your local chimney sweep what’s the best way to keep your house safe from chimney fires…burning quality, dry wood…the drier the better. Tough to get much better than our premium, kiln-dried oak firewood!
Also perfect for your pizza oven! Our smaller splits and extremely low moisture content allow your fire to hit the temps you need to get that perfect pizza.
And of course, your outdoor fire pit could use an elevated firewood experience as well! Since our kiln-dried oak burns hotter with less wood, you can get a more smoke-free experience and keep your wife and kids happy.
Can I bring this wood camping with me?
Yes!
Usually, you don’t want to transport wood too far from the original source. We buy local Missouri trees that are too small for the mills. Then we process and kiln dry them close to the source. The highest level of heat treatment standards currently in the US (at least that we can find) say we should keep our wood above 160 degrees for at least 75 MINUTES…we apparently overdo it just a little at 42 HOURS…;-)
Take it anywhere and feel confident you aren’t hurting the environment doing so!
